Home About Us Community Assistance Fund Events Get Involved Contact

After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, people in Sudbury joined together and asked, "What can we do to help?"

The Sudbury Public Schools Superintendent and Town Manager called a few people to meet. Those people called a few more and HOPEsudbury was born—a diverse group of residents, town employees and business people—young and old—joining together as a community to help others who might need support, encouragement and financial assistance.

Since its establishment in 2002, HOPEsudbury (which stands for Humanitarian Outreach Project) has sponsored a variety of activities and events designed to strengthen community ties while raising money, collecting items and showing support for people in need.

Some examples of our activities include:

  • Hosting the HOPEsudbury Telethon & Auction. This live broadcast is an enormous townwide undertaking that utilizes hundreds of volunteers to showcase local talent and raise funds for many worthy causes.
  • Establishing the HOPEsudbury Community Assistance Fund, a valuable source of short-term financial assistance for Sudbury residents with emergency or unforeseen need—to pay a utility bill, for medical supplies, etc.
  • Coordinating a series of community drives—coats and blankets for Afghan refuges, backpacks and schools supplies for children in a local homeless, toiletries and other items for local soldiers serving in Iraq
  • Supporting construction of Sudbury's September 11 Memorial Garden
  • "Adopting" a firehouse in New York City and acknowledging the heroic efforts of its staff during a weekend of activities at Town Hall and through a variety of nonprofit contributions, including one to a special camp for children who lost relatives during 9-11
